The legend behind Montecristo

Montecristo was inspired by the novel "The Count of Monte-Cristo", written in 1884 by Alexandre Dumas. The story is inspired by the true story of the shoemaker Pierre Picaud and goes as follows:

Edmond Dantès, the main character, manages to escape from prison after being imprisoned innocently for fourteen years due to a false suspicion. Through a tip from another prisoner, he finds a gigantic fortune on the island of Montecristo. He then assumes a new identity, namely the Count of Monte Cristo, and decides to take revenge on those who sent him to prison.
